BALLPOINT PEN MARKET IN UKRAINE
Background. The export-import potential of the ballpoint pen market in Ukraine has been analyzed and its main trends have been defined based on the statistics of the State Statistics Service of Ukraine and customs statistics of the State Fiscal Service of Ukraine. The potential conclusions of this analysis may lead to optimization of processes in this market.
The aim of the study is to analyze the structure of world production, export-import potential and the state of the ballpoint pen market in Ukraine.
Material and methods. The object of research is the market of ballpoint pens in Ukraine. The research used general scientific and special methods: analysis and synthesis, integrated systems approach , analytics, comparison and generalization. The official data of the State Statistics Service of Ukraine and the State Fiscal Service of Ukraine has been used as the empirical basis for the research.
Results. Based on the data obtained by analysis, comparison and generalization of statistical data of the State Statistics Service of Ukraine and data of customs statistics of the State fiscal service of Ukraine, a number of trends in the ballpoint pen market have been identified. The analysis of export-import operations indicates export-oriented policy, although its unstable dynamics during the previous 5 years is worth mentioning. This tendency has a negative effect on the state of this market and limits the possibilities for its effective development.
Conclusion. The analysis showed that during 2011–2016 imports to Ukraine under heading 9608 "Pens; markers; fountain pens, sticks, nibs, felt pens, mechanical pencils; holders and parts to them "decreased. Concerning export of these products during this period there were some changes in various years both in the direction of increase and in the direction of decrease.
Excess of export of ballpoint pens over import shares shows their re-export to such countries as Belarus and the Republic of Moldova.
The main importing countries of ballpoint pens in 2017 were China, India and Germany.
In the last 10–15 years a number of producers from Southeast Asia especially from China actively presented themselves in the global ballpoint pen market. It is difficult to predict how competition between the founders of the ballpoint pen market and the new players will continue to develop.
